Tesuque

Welcome to Tesuque

Known for its peaceful setting, winding country roads, mature cottonwood trees, and luxury homes on large parcels, Tesuque offers a rural lifestyle while remaining close to the restaurants, galleries, shopping, and cultural events of Santa Fe. It is especially sought after by those who value privacy, natural beauty, equestrian properties, hiking trails, and a slower pace of life.

The name "Tesuque" comes from the Tewa language and was later adapted into Spanish. It is commonly translated as "the village of the narrow place of the cottonwood trees" or simply "cottonwood place." The Pueblo of Tesuque has occupied this area for centuries —dating back to around 1200 A.D.—making it one of the oldest continuously inhabited communities in North America. The surrounding valley has long been home to Tewa-speaking people, followed by Hispanic settlers in the 1700s, creating the rich blend of Native American, Spanish, and Anglo cultures that defines the area today.

Today, Tesuque is known for:

• Large estates, adobe homes, and equestrian properties

• Fine dining, boutique inns, and art galleries

• Access to hiking, biking, and the Santa Fe National Forest

• Proximity to both downtown Santa Fe and the Santa Fe Opera

• A quiet, prestigious lifestyle that feels secluded without being isolated

For many people, Tesuque represents the quintessential Northern New Mexico lifestyle—where history, nature, and understated luxury come together.
